गोपनीयता नीति
The short version
Il Sartoriale does not require an account, does not build a profile of you, and does not sell anything about you. The starred pages you save are stored in your own browser and never reach our servers. If you give us an email address for the newsletter, or write to us, we keep that and nothing else.
What we collect
- Server logs. Standard web-server records (IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page, the browser's user-agent string) retained for a limited period for security and to diagnose faults.
- Newsletter address. Only if you enter one. Used to send The Sartorial Dispatch and nothing else. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the record.
- Messages you send us through the contact or corrections forms (the name, email and text you supply), kept so we can reply and act on the report.
- Questions asked of Ask the Archive. The text of the question is sent to our AI provider to produce the answer, and is rate-limited by IP address. Do not put personal information into it.
- Aggregate readership (Google Analytics 4). Which pages are read, roughly where readers are, and how they arrived. Under Google's Consent Mode every advertising signal is denied by default; analytics storage is on unless you decline it (see below), and nothing in it is tied to your identity by this site.
Beyond the aggregate analytics above, we do not use behavioural analytics, advertising pixels or cross-site trackers of our own.
Cookies and local storage
The site sets one cookie of its own, lang, which remembers the interface language you chose. It contains a two-letter code and nothing else. Your theme (light or dark), your reading view (guided or expert) and your saved pages are kept in your browser's local storage; they stay on your device and are never transmitted to us.
Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies (_ga and similar) for the aggregate readership measurement described above. You can switch that off for this browser: decline analytics · allow analytics. The choice is stored in your browser's local storage as sart-consent and is read before the analytics tag loads.
Advertising
Il Sartoriale may in future display advertising served by Google AdSense. If and when it does, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website.
Third parties who process data on our behalf
- Our hosting provider, which operates the server and its logs.
- Anthropic, which processes the text of Ask the Archive questions to generate answers.
- Google, for the aggregate analytics described above, and if and when advertising is enabled, as described above.
Images and news headlines link out to their original sources; following those links takes you to sites with their own policies, over which we have no control.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Since the only records tied to an identity are a newsletter subscription and any message you have sent us, such requests are quick to honour. Write to us through the contact page.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the date at the top of this page.
