Kering
Kering is a French luxury group that owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and, most relevant here, Brioni, which it bought in 2012.
Kering is a French luxury group whose holdings include Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and, relevant to this site, Brioni, acquired in 2012. Ownership is recorded on every brand page here as a matter of public record.
In menswear
Kering's most significant tailoring holding is Brioni, acquired in 2012. The Penne workshop and the tailoring school continue under the group's ownership.
As with any group acquisition, the consequences show first in aesthetic direction and product breadth rather than in manufacturing.
Why this page exists
Corporate ownership is a matter of public record and is almost never displayed in a shop. This site records it on every brand page so that a claim of family continuity can be checked against the shareholder register rather than taken on trust. It is not an accusation. A group-owned house can make excellent clothes and frequently does.
Brioni under Kering
The Penne workshop and the tailoring school continue, and the core tailoring remains what it was. What has changed since 2012 is the pace of creative direction (several designers, several repositionings) and the breadth of the product range beyond tailoring.
For a customer buying a Brioni suit, the relevant question is unchanged: how is this garment constructed and where was it made. The answer is still Penne, and still by hand to a substantial degree.
The other side of the same argument
Kering's relevance here is chiefly Brioni, and the case is instructive because it has run in both directions: a period of repositioning that the tailoring press treated as a mistake, followed by a return toward the house's tailoring identity. It is a reminder that group ownership is not a single event with a single outcome. The strategy changes, and the workroom lives with whichever one is current.
