Um fabricante de tecidos, ou fábrica, tece o pano. Um comerciante selecciona tecidos de várias fábricas, coloca o seu próprio nome no livro de amostras e vende-os aos alfaiates. Quando um alfaiate lhe apresenta um livro de amostras para escolher, são esses os nomes que nele figuram.
