Siniscalchi is a Milan bespoke shirtmaker working in the northern Italian manner: a cleaner, more structured shirt than the Neapolitan houses make, with precise collar construction and a fit cut close to the body.
North against south, in shirts too
The Milan–Naples distinction that governs Italian tailoring applies to shirtmaking as well. A Milanese shirt is cleaner, the collar is more precisely built, and the fit is closer and more deliberate; a Neapolitan one is softer and made to move. Neither is better. They suit different jackets and different temperaments, and a customer who has one should understand which he has.
The house cut
Cut close to the body with a precisely built collar and clean, restrained finishing: the northern Italian approach, and a noticeably different garment from a Neapolitan shirt made from the same cloth.
Bespoke is cut individually; the house works from Milan and takes orders on a limited travel schedule.
Which suits which
A structured Milanese shirt sits well under a structured Milanese or English coat, where a soft Neapolitan collar can look under-dressed. Under a soft unstructured jacket the reverse applies. This is not a rule so much as an observation that shirt and coat are one outfit and are frequently bought as though they were two.
