Stefano Ricci was founded in Florence in 1972, initially in ties, and built a business at the very top of the price range with a deliberately ornate aesthetic: crocodile, heavy silk, gold hardware. It owns its own silk mill in Como.

A different definition of luxury

Where most of the houses on this site define luxury as restraint, Stefano Ricci defines it as evident expenditure: exotic leathers, heavy jacquard silks, visible hardware. It is a coherent position with a real market, and it is worth describing accurately rather than sniffily.

The market it serves

There is a real and international market for luxury that announces itself, and it is served badly by most of the houses this site covers, which compete on restraint. Describing that market dismissively is a failure of reporting rather than a display of taste.
