Sartoria Panico
Sartoria Panico is a small Naples tailoring workshop run by Antonio Panico, who trained at Rubinacci and cuts a classic jacket that many local tailors treat as the benchmark.
Antonio Panico trained under the Rubinacci workshop and established his own sartoria, working in a classical Neapolitan idiom. He is among the tailors most frequently cited within the Naples trade itself, and the workshop is small.
Lineage and reputation
Panico's training links him directly to the workshop where the Neapolitan style was formalised, and his own coat is a classical statement of it: soft, high-armholed, cut with a slightly fuller chest than the contemporary fashion.
The Naples trade's own estimation of a tailor and the international market's estimation frequently diverge, and Panico is a case where the local view is markedly higher than the profile.
Antonio Panico's cut
Panico's coat is fuller through the chest than most contemporary Neapolitan work and slightly longer, which reads as classical rather than dated. The shoulder is soft and the armhole high; the lapel has a pronounced belly. It is the version of the style that existed before the international market discovered it.
He trained in the Rubinacci workshop, which places him directly in the line that produced the style, and the coat reflects that inheritance rather than a later interpretation of it.
Access
A small workshop working largely for a local and returning clientele. There is no significant retail presence and the travel schedule is limited, so commissioning generally means going to Naples.
The number of tailors of this generation still cutting is small and falling, which is the single most important fact about the Neapolitan trade and the least discussed.
The Rubinacci line, continued
Antonio Panico trained at Rubinacci and is among the tailors most often cited by other Neapolitans as cutting the classical version of the city's coat, closer to the mid-century original than to the exaggerated silhouette that circulates on social media. The distinction is real and easy to see once pointed out: the classical Neapolitan shoulder is soft and narrow-set, not extended; the sleeve head is gathered, not pleated into a ruffle.
